Just an update in case you have not seen it yet, Help-Portrait 2010 will be on 12.04.2010. Based on latest video from Jeremy Cowart, Help-Portrait founder, this will be once a year event. Help-Portrait Harrisburg will consider doing it more than once a year, but at this time, we will keep it as a yearly event.
I walked away with a lot of great photographs but agreed not to share them here for the sake of privacy of those photographed. I also walked away with respect for these gentlemen who are trying to put their lives together despite the rough hand dealt to them by society.
Thank you, Tom! I wish people could see these amazing portraits and the stories in these portraits, but as we respect the privacy of these people, readers will have to just take our words. Consider joining us next year. We are sure that it will touch your heart and bring tears to your eyes.
in other news i volunteered time at help-portriat today in harrisburg... for some homeless and shelter ladies... they had some of there kids along... so candy was able to play with the kids... i posed everyone and played with those kids until smiles appeared... i loved it... took some candid shots... and i plan on making a book on snapfish or lulu for the mission center... so the ladies can remember this day forever... i love the fact that i was able to give back with my art! i won't be able to post pictures for this only because we were asked not too... it was not for personal gain but for heartfelt gain... and that warms my soul...
Also, read Candy's mom cause. Let's focus on giving this Christmas season.
And Candy, thank you for bringing smiles to the life of people at Bethesda Mission Women's Shelter.
Update: I forgot to add that Candy is a photographer herself, but willing to help where she is needed most. She took the role of making people smile and capturing the event through candid shots.
"Hip Foto Guy" were kind enough to stop by the Men's Shelter and took some photos of the location. Unlike the women's shelter (which unfortunately we don't have the photos for it and have no plan to post any photos for it), we have a lot of space for the men's shelter. Since a lot of the volunteers have asked about the location detail, I am posting the photos here.
Sorry, this should have been posted earlier on the site. But most people involved should have been notified by mail regarding this meeting. Anyway, if those that have not signed up and still interested in joining in the effort, feel free to join us for the meeting.
Location: St. Thomas Roasters
5951 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17112
Time: 12/3/09 @ 6pm.
As always, the meeting will probably be informal. We hope to see you there.
